Spartaqs at DroneTech World Meeting in Toruń

Oct 19, 2018 | News

At our stand during DroneTech World Meeting 2018 in Toruń (October 19 – 20, 2018) it was possible to get acquainted with the company’s offer and see examples of construction of unmanned platforms – dronoids.

Sławomir Huczała, Co-owner and Chief Designer of the company and Expert of the Polish Chamber of Unmanned Systems took part in the discussion panel ‘Development of the Polish industry of unmanned and autonomous systems in the context of U-Space’. The debate was moderated by Dariusz Werschner, president of the Polish Chamber of Unmanned Systems. Its participants were also Jadwiga Emilewicz, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology; Bartłomiej Pawlak, member of the board of the Polish Development Fund; representative of the Mayor of Toruń; associate prof. associate prof. dr hab. eng. nav. Andrzej Fellner from the Silesian University of Technology; Maciej Włodarczyk from the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency and Kazimierz Karolczak, chairman of the Silesian Metropolis.

‘In order to determine what infrastructure we need, it is necessary to define what unmanned systems should do’, said Sławomir Huczała. ‘Another type of infrastructure will be needed for medical drone flying between hospitals, and another one for drones guarding public order.. First of all, care should be taken to ensure the safe use of unmanned aerial vehicles, with emphasis on their design features’, emphasized Sławomir Huczała. In his opinion, there are no structures adapted to U-Space today. Services in cities are carried out with drones unsuitable for such tasks.

In the instructions of most devices available on the market, we find information that there should be no flights carried out over people, streets or buildings. Such tasks are massively implemented with these constructions. These drones do not have adequate redundancy of critical components, e.g. motors (there are too few of them), and they do not have an emergency power block. ‘The propellers installed on the drone do not work in the proper shield, which can lead to serious accidents involving people. Any flights with machines of this type in an urban environment expose the operator to legal consequences’,said Sławomir Huczała.

In his opinion, every accident involving an unmanned aerial vehicle affects their social reception. This is a threat to the entire drone industry. The solution is equipment certification, which means that only constructions adapted to fly in the urban space will be allowed to fly in the city.

‘The structure needed to perform the BVLOS mission is similar to the one already existing in the aviation market’, he said. Airplanes move from beacon to beacon, and at airports equipped with the ILS system approach to land on the computer-controlled route of approach to landing. The drones moving in BVLOS mode could be guided through special beacons installed in appropriate locations or / and using BTS mobile base stations. The guidance systems to the landing field for the drones, Spartaqs presented and demonstrated their effectiveness during Droniada 2018. Additional necessary elements in the U-Space zone should be automated emergency or service landing pads. An important element would also be Droneready type buildings.

‘Ground infrastructure should be adapted to legal requirements and future Dronostrads. It depends on the specific types of drones and tasks defined for them’, finally added Sławomir Huczała.

Our dronoids stood out during the DroneTech World Meeting 2018 fair in Toruń. Sławomir Huczała, Co-owner and Chief Designer of the company, talked about the invisible dronoid Prometheus for TVP 3 Bydgoszcz.
